The White Men - 1650 Words

It was the year of 1801, when my grandfather, Shalem and grandmother, Boshika were kidnapped from Africa. Coming to awful America was the scariest, heartbreaking time of their lives. As the white men took them away from their home and culture, they brought to America both an education and their faith in God and Jesus Christ. The White men checked the health of the Negroes and grouped them according to their health and sex. Boshika was pregnant with my mom Ablimim. Shalem and Boshika named my mother when she was first conceived. Boshika was put in the group of female sex that had a baby that was conceived past 20 weeks. Shalem was put in a group of male sex that was completely healthy. The white men were shouting commands and telling people where to go. Shalem and Boshika were scared to death. Boshika watched in tears as her beloved husband got chained at the ankles and wrist. Shalem entered a slave ship, turned around towards Boshika, he brought two fingers to his heart and tapped t wice. Boshika returned the same hand gesture. As they both knew that it meant â€Å"I will love you forever and ever my beloved spouse, for I will never leave your heart.† Shalem and Boshika were put onto two different ships. While the long journey over the Atlantic, Shalem and Boshika grew weak and sick. The conditions on the ship were mortifying, for the Negroes were fed awful, non-nutritious food, there was little room to move, and people were sitting in puke, urine, and feces.
